TO ALL FREDERICK COUNTY ARES MEMBERS:

 

SIX STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

 

 

#1)  REGISTRATION.  

All interested Amateur Radio operators should register with ARES/RACES
at the following web addresses:

 

www.qsl.net/k3erm  &  www.madxra.org <http://www.madxra.org/> 

 

Forms are available for download.  Fill them out, copy your HAM &
DRIVERS licenses, if available and mail to:

If you are able to provide me with a JPEG PHOTO ID file (head shot)
please do so.  A Frederick County ID badge will be produced for you.  

 

#2)  NATIONAL TRAFFIC SYSTEM

NTS.  Know how to create, handle, send, receive and deliver NTS message
traffic.  

 

#3)  DIRECTED NET OPERATIONS

Know how to check into and participate in a directed net.

 

#4)  NET CONTROL STATION

Net Control operators are mandatory, don't be caught without one or two!


 

#5)  MONITORING/ACTIVATION

Monitor the primary frequency (147.060 /R + & PL tone=123.0Hz) ANYTIME
there is a threat or unusual situation such as:  large power outage,
severe weather, terrorist activity or railroad incident.  

 

#6)  EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING

The American Radio Relay League offers it's Certification and Continuing
Education Program (CCEP) courses 1 through 3 to all members FREE OF
CHARGE provided you complete the online class successfully.  There are
many other sources for this Emergency Communication training.  We all
should take the BASIC (level 1) class.  

 

 

 

Please: --talk-up these SOP's with other emergency-service interested
radio operators.  

--encourage other operators to register with ARES/RACES and become
involved ahead of time!
