Well, figured it was about time I got at least a little active on the mail
list!
I want to also publicly praise Carolyn for the excellent job she did in
putting together our July Hamfest. And also thanks to all of you who
volunteered and helped to set it up, run it and clean up afterwards. The
fest was more successful than I feared it would be, especially in a year
when I have seen really dismal turnouts at some of the other area fests. I
have received lots of compliments from attendees and vendors on the quality
of the fest this year and we owe much of that success to Carolyn.
I also thank her for many long years as our club secretary and she has
earned a vacation (or retirement) from that responsiblity.
We had a respectable return to the air as a club for Field Day with almost
400 QSO's in our 3A category. A fine time was had by all who participated.
We also had our first showing in the MD-QSO party this past weekend and I
am looking forward to hearing how our score tallied up in that one.
We have lined up Norm Jeweler, of Norm's Rotor Service, to provide a
presentation at this month's meeting. I don't know anyone who has more
knowledge of rotors, especially the Hy-Gain and Alliance varieties, than
Norm. He has provided reams of insight and advice on the good and bad
aspects antenna rotators to many groups around the DC-Balt area and if
there is anything you ever wondered about the subject, you should be with
us NEXT WEDNESDAY for this meeting.
Despite the fact that we have been unable to get AutoCall to update their
activities calendar and information to reflect correct information, the
FARC meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month now at the Civil Air Patrol
facilities on the east side of the Frederick air park. Just drive east down
Bowman Farm Road pst the entrances to the new Law Mall and the MD DMV and
keep going until you can't go any further and you will be at the meeting
place.
Hope to see you all there!
