Fellow ECs and ROs,

As you undoubtedly `know, the Foundation for Amateur Radio (F.A.R.) and
The Columbia Amateur Radio Association (CARA) have joined forces to
create what is hoped will become one of the premier Amateur Radio events
in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The dates are Saturday, 7 September and Sunday, 8 September 2002 at the
Howard County (MD) Fairgrounds west of Baltimore near the intersection
of I-70 and MD-32.

On Saturday morning beginning at 0900, we will be conducting a
"Coordinated ARRL Presentation" with

Tom Abernethy/W3TOM, MDC SM,

Al Nollmeyer/W3YVQ, MDC ASM ARES/RACE/NTS Coordination and BACO RO, and

Mike Carr/WA1QAA, MDC SEC and HOWA RO.

ECs and ROs as well as all ARES, RACES and NTS members are
cordially invited to attend. Additional details related to this forum
will be forthcoming as plans become firm. The forum will take place in
Exhibit Building 3, which is across from the large exhibition hall.

Several additional seminars are planned for Saturday and Sunday,
includiung:

Amateur Microwave Communications with Bill Seabreeze,
W3IY

RF Interference Investigation with Mike Martin, K3RFI

AMSAT Satellite Communications with Rick Hambly, W2GPS

Demonstration of the Marconi Detector by Chip Weems, W4PBG

APRS Demonstration by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR

Amateur TV demonstration by Tim Keener, N3VGS

On Sunday, 8 September MEPN will hold a meeting beginning at 1200 in
Exhibit Building 3.

In addition, SKYWARN classes will be held during the hamfest.

Many vendors have reserved space including "Satellite Sam," the "RF
Connection", the "Badge Man", "Startek", "Ramsey Electronics", and more.

A special event station, "W3FAR/"AM" (W3-Full Audio Radio),"
will be on the air demonstrating vintage and homebrew equipment with
that wonderful rich sound of AM radio of the "old days."

See: <http://www.fall-fest.com/> http://www.fall-fest.com/ for
details and directions.

Mike
