It would appear that all of the level 2 connectivity goes away, as I can not
get a outbound connection to work when I give it explicit routing. I guess
that wp is tied to things even deeper than we thought, but if we can clean
up the network it is worth it to remove all of the non-working calls.
I just tried to establish connections using the remote address and get nothing
