For a better packet station, I have prepared a cable table arranged by
Power Output for 146 MHz. for 100 watts input.
Manufacturer Type Output
Belden 9913 RG-8 70 See note 1.
Wireman CQ102 RG-8 70
Belden 9913F RG-8 67
Wireman CQ106 RG-8 67
Wireman CQ110 RG-8 60
Belden 8237 RG-8 58
Belden 8267 RG-213 54
Belden 9258 RG-8X 39
Wireman CQ1000 RG-8 ? See note 2.
Note:
1. I would not recommend this coax for anyone. It has a spiral
dielectric and easily degrades with moisture intrusion. The 9913F
has a foam insulation, is more flexible and offers almost the same
output.
2. Unable to locate any “db” loss for this cable and therefore unable
to calculate output. According to Wireman catalogue, this is a “poor
man’s hard line” and MAY be better than the best listed here.
Now you have information about each cable type. All you have to do is
find the best price/100 feet for highest output.

Carl, AA4MI
