Folks,
I am presently trying to get the info services back up and running as we did
back in earlier times.
For those of you with different info numbering, in the USA 411 is the local
area information, and area-code + 555-1212 gets you info for that area code.
(this is changing as 411 is now being offered as a nation wide info service)
We used this to allow users to connect to INFO @ switch_address or INFO@
area_code411 and get local network and facilities info. With changes and
many systems going off line we lost this in most of our area.
By going to linux it becomes a lot easier to integrate these services into the
switch as a local service with some form of alias.
Presently if you want to see where I am you can connect info at 813411 (add
the DNIC if you are in AUS or FRA) . For some reason it does not paginate
if the connection comes in from outside of the switch, if you ssh into fpac
node and type 411 you will see the pagination, I am using less to display
the help file. I am just testing the idea out for now. But in the end I want to
end up with a INFO solution we can add to the switches so that the users
will have a common call/address to go to on each switch.
Those of you in your respective countries, if you decide to use the concept,
pass along the address you use which is the equivalant to our 411 so we
can add that info for those who maybe wanting to poke around your resp-
ective DNIC's.
Once I get this working for 411, I will get the wide area INFO running and
add it to the list.
Please try it out, and of course if you want to try to come up with something
better please do so, and then inform me so I can copy it (I have no shame
there you get the glory and I get happy users!!)
Enjoy!!
