Hi, Doug
Good Show!
Please use the e-mail address budthompson at cfl.mail-block.com to get stuff to
me quicker. I'm still fussing with that outfit for some problems, but that
one should work best.
What frequency will you put the Telpac node on? Will it be KD4MOJ-10?
With the 160 ft antenna height, what radius of coverage do you anticipate
for home-based packet stations with, say 25w and a gain vertical antenna at
25 ft agl?
Good to start with Telpac for Windows first - it will work right out of the
box. If you can remember what you did the last time it should be okay. The
latest Telpac version is 1.2.2. If you have any trouble, I recommend using
AGWPE as (1) I'm not convinced the native AX.25 version of Telpac is all
that stable, and, more to the point, (2) I can give you a lot more help with
the AGW PE version if needed! Har. You will need the lat/long or grid
square number for these later versions. You will also need the Registration
Number for your Telpac from the winlink.org website. E-mail or call if you
need any help at all.
Just yesterday, N3PPC and I played with K4GBB's LINUX CD and our LINUX 'box'
is working now while we work via e-mail with K4GBB to get AX.25 configured.
We'll make it work with some help I'm sure. We are taking baby steps.
When you get ready to put up an FPAC switch you may be able to go straight
to LINUX once we accumulated some more experience with a few of these sites
running LINUX FPAC.
You will also need one or more UHF beams on that tower to get to the nearest
Layered Network neighboring switches.

PS Best test the wind before spitting.
