My problem was not putting the call in the .cfg file properly but the
docs are very good.

Adding it to the fpac side is a no brainer... Here is the line I put in
the fpac.conf file

Welcome to Knoppix (Kernel 2.4.22-xfs)

cd root at fpac-dev:~# cd /etc/ax25
root at fpac-dev:/etc/ax25# ls
arptab             ax25-up.original  axports~            gatewaytab
ax25-config.6pac0  ax25-up~          axsetparms          mheard.dat
ax25-config.kiss0  ax25d.conf        axspawn.conf        nrbroadcast
ax25-delete        ax25d.conf.old    fpac                nrports
ax25-down          ax25ipd.conf      fpac.conf           routetab
ax25-down-mkiss    ax25ipd.conf~     fpac.conf.old       rsports
ax25-up            ax25rtd.conf      fpac.conf.palmetto  telpac.cfg
ax25-up-6pack      axdispparms       fpac.conf~          telpac.hst
ax25-up-mkiss      axports           fpac.dnic           ttylinkd.conf
ax25-up.old        axports.old       fpac.info
root at fpac-dev:/etc/ax25# less fpac.conf

#
# FPAC configuration file
#
# This file MUST be /etc/ax25/fpac.conf

#
# Informations on the node
#

L2call    = KP4DJT-8
L3call    = KP4DJT-9
Trcall    = KP4DJT-7
DNIC      = 3100
Address   = 813626
#Coverage  = 813626
InetPort  = 1023
InetAddr  = 44.98.24.2
Password  = lagarto
City      = Palm River
Locator   = EL87TW
UserPort  = 0
DefPort   = 0

#
# Other commands
#

Command

        TELPac  = connect kp4djt-10 813626

And for the direct connect

Application
#       F1TVE-1 = /usr/sbin/fpac/call_tcp f1tve 1022
#       F1TVE-5 = /usr/sbin/conversd/bin/axconv -c 151 -n %u f1tve.ampr.org 3600
        KP4DJT-10 = /usr/sbin/telpac_node  %S
End

That was all I had to do The first one handles a connect to the node and then
a speed connect (issuing TELPac ) and the second one handles a direct connect
If on the local lan freq it will just be
c kp4djt-10
If on the network it will be
c kp4djt-10 v switch_call, 813626
Replace switch call with your local switch.
Example, a connection from the Tampa lan would be as follows
c kp4djt-10 v kc5qcn-8 813626
The network will route the connection to my switch which will then set up
the telpac connection.
