Subject: [FADCA] E-mail Over Ham Radio Program a Success in Lake County
Deltona, FL
Friday March 18 0720E
Last night N3PPC and I took the Dog and Pony show to the Leesburg PD
Auditorium in Lake County to demonstrate the E-mail Over Ham Radio
capability in support of EMCOMMs to the Lake County ARES/RACES group.
At least 25 ARES/RACES members observed the Ham Radio Server and two client
laptops on a wireless LAN working smoothly and exchanging several messages
with email addresses in Florida and elsewhere. The auditorium is a first
class theater style with modern audio A/V gear including computer-to-large
screen projection.
In the absence of an outside VHF antenna, I parked my van in the parking lot
with a digipeater set up on 145.01. Using a 1/4 wave vhf antenna inside the
auditorium the path to the W5TWR-10 Telpac in The Villages included the digi
in the van and the TAV (K4FC) network node. (The W5TWR-10 Telpac node had
been moved from 145.03 to 145.01 to accommodate the demonstration.)
An extensive Q&A session indicated a high level of interest with this
ARES/RACES group.
73,
bud Thompson N0IA
