Hi, Virgil...
Please accept my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. We have had
house guests all week and that has curtailed my activities on the radio and
e-mail quite a bit. I've also been helping Charlie N3PPC move.
I'm following some of your exploits on the wl2kemcomms reflector.
Let's get you a copy of Charlie's TinyPack program. It is a swell
diagnostic program to help find out what mode a TNC is in and to get it out
of that mode back to another mode! While this is not the total answer to
why your Telpac doesn't work, it sure will save you some time when you need
to learn what is going on with the TNC.
N3PPC has just changed QTHs - but I'll bet he can dig out the Win98/ME
version of Tiny Pack and e-mail it to you sometime in the next few days.
Meanwhile - Have you tried AGW Packet Engine - and then Telpac? AGW Packet
Engine should work on Win98 and Telpac works swell with AGW PE. You might
try that combo just to get Telpac going reliably, then after learning about
that, go back and try native Telpac. We run Kantronics TNCs on many of our
Telpac nodes here and have no trouble. However, they all run through AGW
PE, and of course, all are running on Win2000 or XP.
If I can steal some time, I'll see if I can get a Telpac node working on my
WinME laptop - I've never tried that, so maybe I can learn something... but
it may be a few days.
Hang in there.
