In response to a note I sent earlier regarding the Florida Department of
Children and Families EMCOMMS program, Chuck, KP4DJT, wrote:
"there will be many instances where the access
point that has a working internet connection maybe at least a couple of
switch hops away, so we also need to make sure that they understand
that if we are going to use VHF/UHF packet radio then we need to try to
have the network as stable as possible and preferably also hardened. This
is also why I like to have the Telpac nodes co-located with the switches
then you can have them in places like EOC's and we can use a either
a common ssid and or the word TELPAC as the access. Indeed that is
the way I have it set up on my machine, you can either connect to it using
kp4djt-10 or TELPAC or whatever other call or label you want to give it."
Good points, Chuck. I agree.
