I think Bud's response was accurate. But I don't think it is a matter of
"love." It is an involved system and setting it up is not as straight
forward as it needs to be. However, it is the most efficient and robust
system we have.
I hate to see technology being described in terms of emotions. This is not
a religion or belief. It is technology. It is evolving. But it is also
effective. There is no other system that can provide the integration of
email and radio that matches it at this time. The HF Airmail and the VHF/UHF
Paclink, Telpac, PMBO system is the best non commercial email over radio
system. The ability to send email to any email address in the world at
anytime without having to involved human handling is a tremendous asset we
need to use.
I am not sure why there are detractors. Demeaning a technology or
application of technology doesn't make sense. Some modes provide for
different products or applications. You choose the tool that acheives the
desired outcome. I don't see a competition. I see an application. You can
use it or not. That is a personal choice.
I struggle with Paclink from time to time (as Bud will tell you from my
calls,) but overall it is an effective tool. It should be accepted as a
tool, used as a tool, and applied to what it does best, provide written
communication with the capability of attached files were no wired connection
is immediately available.
