I must take exception with your comment. There are more than enough
licensed Amateur Radio operators in Florida, nearly 40,000 of them at last
count. The real problem is one of LEADERSHIP. The bickering and infighting
that has been allowed to permeat the Amateur Radio landscape is the real
limiting factor. Too many are now on the sidelines because they are now
willing to work around those who put their egos first! The 30 to 90 year
old technology would have been replaced a long time ago if we weren't having
to constantly work around the politics and ineptness.
Successful volunteerism requires lots and lots of teamwork. That teamwork
doesn't just happen. It takes a lot of focus and hard work. It takes
effective Project Management based on needs, goals and objectives. That
means listening to the potential clients, having a full understanding of
what it is they want and need and then building it.
Yes, there are technology issues to be addressed. But without some basic,
fundamental leadership changes, the people needed to build and operate any
technology are going to continue to sit on the sidelines. What a waste!
