Virgil,

There have been hundreds of successful installations so it is possible...you
are probably missing some steps.

For example if you are using AGWPE you do NOT need the TNC control files.
They are not used.

Try and do this in steps. It is ESSENTIAL that each step work and be
verified before moving to the next otherwise you'll have half a dozen
unknowns and an almost impossible debug task unless you are very familiar
with the software.

1) Get the manual for your TNC. Find out the EXACT commands needed to put
it into KISS mode.
2) Use a dumb terminal program (one is provided in AirMail or you can use
hyper term or any other of your choice.
3) Use that dumb terminal to interface to the TNC. Can you get a command
prompt? Can you reliable talk to it AT a fixed baud rate? etc. If this
doesn't work don't bother going ahead...you need this first.
4) Now setup AGWPE. If you have trouble with he free version use the Pro
version (free for 30 days) to get you started. The pro version is easier to
set up but both will work. Make sure you start with the TNC in then normal
terminal mode and a fixed baud rate for the serial channel.
5) There are detailed instructions on this for the KPC3 and AGWPE in the
Telpac set up. Those work. Make sure you use the correct sequence of
commands (may not necessarily be the commands defaulted in AGWPE) for your
TNC. It is essential that you set up the correct two or three commands that
get it into KISS mode.

5) Now run the other AGWPE application AGW Term This is a simple terminal
program that allows you to talk to the TNC and make/monitor connections via
the Packet engine. If this works (you can send and receive packets) you are
almost done.

Up to now I have not mentioned one thing about Telpac or Paclink AGW....this
is all about getting the basic AGWPE set up and talking to the TNC.

Now once that is done you can very easily follow the remainder of the
instructions in the Telpac or Paclink AGW setup guide.

If you cannot get the AGWPE to work at all. Go into the directory that has
AGWPE and send me your AGWPE.ini and Portn.ini files (Port0. 1. 2 etc. With
those I can probably find out what you are doing wrong.

Sorry for the problems but this involves several hardware and software
functions and each must be setup to work....Packet radio is not plug and
play like AOL!

Rick KN6KB

Rick,
I am beginning to wonder if this is worth the frustration.
I have downloaded the new rev of Telpac. The two module that go with it.
I have set my "beacon as it should be, the APRs as it should be But I still
on Initiate get the screen that tells me all the information the last of
which
is "command
8 bitcon on" At that point the system locks up and I need to restart the
computer to get out of it.
I have followed the directions for setting up Paclink AGW and Postoffice and
Telpac.
I have spent about 4 days on this set up. I maybe doing something wrong but
I
cannot find it.
I need Help!
