More on network status and cross-state link in Central Florida -

Dan KA0OXH is working on the Clermont Switch - once it is on line we will
have a UHF 9.6kb link to Orlando east (certainly by the time we move the
Orlando switch which could happen by April). By that time links from
Orlando through Deland and DAB will go to JAX though some may still be 1200b
north of DAB.

With the Orlando switch moved, we'll have a UHF 9.6kb link to Melbourne. A
tad far at 51 miles, but it should work most of the time.

The Clermont Switch has UHF beam(s) for additional links westward/southward-
wherever the next link will be. I think the last time we had a thread
discussion the most likely next place was the Bartow airport. My Street
Atlas Network Map shows a 42.9 mile path seven digress off due N/S. The
path from Bartow to KC5QCN FPAC in Tampa is 43.8 miles three degrees off
due E/W. KC5QCN is 45 miles due North of Sarasota (SRQ.) The Bartow site
would provide a 2M LAN covering Lakeland, Lake Whales, and about 80 Percent
of Polk county - clear to the southern county line.

Using 150 ft agl antenna height, 60w output radios, 10 dB gain antenna, VSWR
1.2:1, 0.5dB feed line loss, and 1.0 uv receiver sensitivity here are the
parameters for 40 and 45 mile paths at 446 MHz:

Distance 40 m 45 m
Path Loss -121.6dB -122.6 dB
Fade Margin 12.7dB 9.0 dB
Radio Horizon 34.6 m
Est. Useable Range 60.2 m

At 200 ft agl and 45 mile spacing
Fade Margin is 14.1 dB
Radio Horizon is 40 miles
Est. Useable Range is 70.9 miles

Adjacent LANS are tangential at switch spacing (backbone paths) of 40 miles.
(Arbitrary LAN coverage of 20 miles radius.)

A new opportunity in N. Sumter County on a 150 ft water tower may be
considered. This area is highly populated and there is sufficient community
support for establishing digis, switches, etc. A LAN at the water tower
would provide great, but somewhat overlapping coverage in N. Lake and N.
Sumter counties.

Distances to existing network switches are:

Ocala 22.7 miles
Clermont 26.5 miles
Citrus Springs 29 miles

and to where we used to have a switch that could then make Tampa

Brooksville 32.3 miles.

Brooksville to KC5QCN is 40.6 miles.

Just stuff for thought.
