Subject: Conjoint Meeting Lake/Sumter Counties Emergency Communications

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
Please accept this invitation to a meeting between Lake and
Sumter Counties to see a presentation of the new digital communications
suite being promoted by the American Radio Relay League and The Amateur
Radio Emergency Services organizations. This is an amazing system of
digital communications for the 21st Century. We are involved in a
build-out of the system here in central Florida. We have invited an
expert on the system, Bud Thompson, W0IA, to come and present as well as
demonstrate the effectiveness of the system. He is the
Secretary/Treasurer of the Florida Amateur Digital Communications
Association. We will need a few laptop computers to add to the LAN at
the time of the meeting for the demonstration. Bud, himself, will do
the setup (minimal) at the meeting to show how easy the system is to
operate! Both wireless network cards and Ethernet (hardwired) LANs can
be accommodated by the System.
FADCA has been advancing the system gradually from the east
coast of Florida north to Jacksonville and south to Miami and ,of late,
across central Florida to Clermont and Tampa. The purpose of this
Network is to connect all of Florida by Winlink 2000 together for the
purpose of Emergency Management of Communications. This system will
provide robust communications services for Hurricane, Flood, and any
other regional disaster. Since the system is wireless, it can connect
remote areas and provide reliable communications when commercial
services are not available. Winlink 2000 is already in service by
yachts at sea and RVer's in remote areas!
You will be the guests of Butch Whitehead, Lake County
Emergency Manager at the EOC in Tavares ( 315 W Main) if you agree to
come to the meeting on November 18th at 7 PM. The meeting is also being
sponsored by Irv Butler,KB1E, Lake County Emergency Coordinator, Milton
Hill, Sumter Emergency Manager, and Myself, Ed Crowell, W5TWR, Sumter
County Assistant Emergency Coordinator, and President of The Villages
Amateur Radio Club.
We hope you will mark you calendars for this date and try to
find time from your busy schedules for this important meeting. We have
a long list of important people we have invited to attend. We
understand Dixie Steinberg, KB2EV, Amateur Radio Relay League District
Emergency Coordinator for West-Central Florida will be coming.
Sincerely yours,
Ed Crowell,
W5TWR
