Bill,
I have taken the time to RTFM with regards to AX25 and LINUX and I am
starting to get the pieces put together. Indeed, the newer kernels come
with the AX25 stuff already in there all you have to do is configure it.

I am running SuSA Linux and the other day I checked things out and loaded
the AX25 stuff, then I did a configuration of the port, and used "call" to test
it out. I am able to issue connects and see the KISS frames go out the serial
port, all I need to do is get a TNC plugged into it and things should work.

Now that I have taken that first step the whole thing is starting to become a
whole lot clearer. The other stuff you just build on top of the AX.25 stuff like
a building. As you go you can test and change things if you do not like it.

Once I had all of the AX.25 stuff installed (I used SuSA's YaST, but you can
use the installer of the distro you are using, just have it search for AX25 and
you should have 4 packages to install or activate, once that is done go out
and start following the instructions of the AX.25 How to, and you will find that
bit by bit the whole thing will start working. They key is to follow
the instructions
and when you get a error look at what you are doing and compare it to what
the How To says.

I am going to get a TNC and radio on it I hope this weekend and test that all
out, if I can connect to the switch, then I will start adding the
network stuff to
it.
