N3PPC and I are moving along with repackaging the Orlando FPAC switch into a
more appropriate cabinet/enclosure for the new site in Orange County. The
cabinet, donated by Dan KA0OXH, is 5-ft tall and has ample room for the gear
and our hands to be inside when working! We have four Mitreks mounted - two
positions will accommodate 100w units if needed -, a 50A rack-mounted PS, a
shelf for two computers (FPAC/BBS), a shelf for a shared monitor, a shelf
for tncs and the touch tone controller. There is also a 10-1/2" panel for
'control head' functions for the four radios. There is remaining rack/panel
space for a box containing line conditioning and control relay functions.
For the most part we have the mechanicals finished and will be starting on
internal wiring this week.
We have three 6-el UHF beams for backbones to Melbourne, Clermont, and
DeLand, and a DB-224 for the 2M LAN which will cover all of Orange and
Seminole Counties at least. (For the record - the new Clermont LAN will
also cover the metro areas of Orange and Seminole Counties.)
It is likely we'll be able to use 30-40w UHF radios for all backbone links
and not more than 60w on 145.07 to get coverage of both counties.
