What I had in mind was getting these BBSs tied together via telnet because
we can do that quickly - it just takes a NIC card and some minor
configuration providing internet access is available.
Then when we have RF paths among them we should do the BBS forwarding on RF
as well. However, this should likely be only between BBS separated by not
more than N number of switches if any of it is done on the LAN(s)
Eventually we'll need to have an SOP of some sort that will keep both layers
(RF and Telnet) alive and tested w/o hogging the slower layer too much,
especially on the LANs themselves where used by BBSs for forwarding. The
ideal thing would be for all Switches to have separate BBS access ports
(preferably 9.6kb or higher) from the user LAN ports - but that is pretty
far down the road from where we are now.
Actually, my feeling is that advancing technology will bring something 'new'
to our network that may minimize the actual hardware/firmware ports needed
at a given switch.. we'll see.
