I should be last on the list for replies, if on it at all, since I am
currently not running the software (any day now --and bill offered to help
me this weekend --maybe next)

But, here are some thoughts why I said xp xp xp --

I like/need the remote login/control (remote console) function xp offers.
With my 'main' computer I can take control of any of the dedicated
computers -- ( my www.palmbayweather.com computer, the ham computers,
laptop) without having to have a keyboard, mouse, DISPLAY, etc for them.

It works GREAT-- over a LAN you cant tell you are not wired into the logged
into computer -- disk drives, serial ports, sound, everything works across
the net. Across the WAN it is slower --but still --complete control over
the remote box -- and that is all it needs to be -- a cpu box with no user
control peripherals (ok HMI).

2) I know everyone uses the DRI boards -- but what I use is the IO Networks
edgeport devices -- I have 2 vesions the 8 port and 4 port models -- can't
live without them -- they are a USB to 4 or 8 port RS-232.

With this computer, I talk to 4 tncs, 2 scanners, the HF rig, the
programming I/F to two vhf/uhf radios, and my router. All of them rs-232.

And all via the egeport USB device -- the 'real' com ports are unsused.

I used to have a lot of finicky problems with them on win me -- but with xp,
they have been smooth as glass for the last 2 years - -- even with software
that says it 'does not support usb to rs232 devices', THEY work.

You can put on of those babies with the TNCs and run a single USB cable to
the cpu. Nice.

Anyway -- the remote console, and advance USB support is the force behind
the XP XP XP.

End of explanation :)

Cheers
