It is replies like this that has been turning people off.
No effort to keep support for p1. No change in direction! Let's see about
return on investment, MAJOR return on investment if one life is saved using
p1 verses NOT being able to send a message due to lack of support. You have
to remember that we are talking about a EMERGENCY and not day to day use.

You can't expect a responder to have a ptc-iie modem laying around to use
in a emergency unless he uses it to "play" with all the time.
I'm working on getting a full blown PMBO/telpac/whatever else set up at our
EOC and it is going to happen. We will even have jump kits but how many can
you have sitting doing nothing? We will only get so much money from our
EOC. When that is done then we will have to use whatever we can!
On the if all else fails what are you going to use when you get hit by a
hurricane or earthquake or fire and your emergency jump boxes that you have
stored at the EOC or wherever get destroyed?
You need to be able to use whatever the responders have to offer.

What do you suggest to use if your portable stations get destroyed?

I thought this list was based on supporting EMCOMM's? Is this not so?
To support EMCOMM's you need to look at the TOTAL package and just not one
piece of the puzzle! What good will it be to have this super duper PMBO if
no one can use it because of equipment?

How will only discussing what it takes to implement a PMBO serve whoever we
need to serve when there is no discussion on what a user (responder) will
need to have that he doesn't have to take a loan out for?

I didn't say go backwards. I said the support needs to be KEPT for these
slower speeds if that is all a responder has to use.

I guess all you care about Mike is the PMBO and not what is REALLY needed
to cover the last mile.
I've read in almost EVERY post that you send out that "SCS is the
best" We don't have the money to get 20 SCS modems, our EOC will only buy
one maybe two. Will you buy us the other 18 so we can all send EMERGENCY
messages? We do have 25 hams in the local area that have either old kam+ or
pk-232 that will do pactor 1 but we can't use them because in a emergency
there is no support for them.
In normal every day use I don't see where there is a problem with a PMBO to
turn off support for pactor 1 and making the sailor or RV'er upgrade his
system to "PLAY" but in a EMERGENCY you need to keep all the hand tools in
the tool box along with the power tools!!
You have to remember, or now you know that in Florida we can't have nodes
more than about 40 miles apart at the most because the only mountains we
have are made out of METAL!!!!!!
And I thought that this list was all about covering "the last mile" to get
to a PMBO.
I guess in Florida we are going to have PMBO's every 50 miles and forget
about a VHF/UHF network so that a NORMAL responder with a VHF/UHF radio and
tnc will be able to get into a PMBO to send EMERGENCY traffic or shall we
tell all the no code hams that we have that we have no use for them since
they can't get on HF and turn on their ptc2 to connect to a PMBO.

I wasn't going to get in here and say that most everyone is forgetting that
you must have USERS (responders) to use the PMBO's in a emergency!!!
I'm not saying that we don't need to move ahead, but we can't forget the
past. Even to this day with color TV's they must still broadcast the black
and white picture. The FCC made sure that the past wasn't forgotten and
that the old stuff would still be able to be used.
Think about it .....
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?
