Bill this is good news. With regards to the 1k2, vs 9k6, 9k6 actually
needs less signal level (providing the radios are in good condx and
distortion is low) than 1k2. The reason is that 1k2 is AFSK whereas
9k6 is FSK, I will not go into all of the stuff behind it, there was
in one of the Digital Conference proceedings a very good publication
about this.
AFSK at 1k2 is easy to deal with because it will go through the mic
input and out the speaker of most radios and will work find.
The issue with 9k6 is handling mostly the low end (22.5 Hz componet)
of the power spectrum of 9k6. Were it not for that we would all be
running 9k6 probably years ago.
