"This is a test e-mail message from the Tampa Amateur Radio Club clubhouse
(about a mile from the Hillsborough County EOC) where the Tampa Amateur
Radio Club is meeting tonight. Our program this evening is titled "Digital=

Messaging in Support of Emergency Communications (EMCOMMS)." It has includ=
ed
demonstrations of Ham Radio-to-E-mail messaging using vhf packet and HF
Pactor, providing means for connecting served agencies inside the Last Mile=

to Internet e-mail outside the last mile.

In simulating the Tampa Bay Area being inside the Last Mile, where
conventional communications, including Internet access, are overloaded or
totally disrupted by the incident, this message was sent via HF radio to a
station in Dallas, Nashville, Cleveland, Ft. Lauderdale, or any of 34 other=

participating stations in the Winlink 2000(WL2K)Ham-Radio-to E-mail
network (www.winlink.org) outside the Last Mile. The station then processe=
d
the message through conventional Internet-email to your inbox.

Large areas inside the Last Mile (i.e Hillsborough and two adjacent
counties) can have e-mail messaging between EOCs and served agencies withou=
t
the Internet using the Florida Layered Packet Network. (www.fadca.org)
