Oh yes another trick is to have a packet box on
a off the wall freq, preferably on a off the wall
band such as 900Mhz and just issue a connect to
the TNC, the CON led on the TNC opens a relay
and as soon as you disconnect the relay closes
That way the relay fails in the no power condition
so if the coil opens or the TNC fails it will
not be open. (unless of course the TNC fails with
the CON led on)
You could use a pair of them set to a strange speed,
so as to reduce even more people trying to fool with
it.
You could use a couple of 9k6 TNC's running at 7k2 or
some other speed that will pass similar to 9k6, then
it just sounds like a noise burst and no one would know
it was there. All you do is connect then disconnect and
you have reset the system.
