Are you all aware of the new TAPR mailing list which is a joint venture with
the ARRL on it's new initiative to increase part 97 use of 2.4 Ghz ? It is a
very active list with plenty of people that are playing and actually WORK in
the field.

There is also a company in Boca Raton which makes and labels a LARGE variety
of 802.11x equipment. I purchased my Lucent Card from them along with a
couple of jumpers. WiFi uses quite a few different and difficult to find
coax connectors and I highly recommed purchasing pre-made jumper adapters,
many of these are sub-mini and even if you were to find the appropriate
connectors chances are most would screw them up since they are so small.

Down East Microwave is also a source and they seem to be expanding in this
specific band.

I am trying to play with WiFi but it is difficult with the country terrain
in my area. I got a few local hams that may be interested but the dense 60ft
pine trees would make it VERY difficult. I consider it DX'ing and DF'ing
when I war drive in the city. With a good antenna you can get great range
but I got to leave my community to have any luck past 2-3 1.25 acre plots.

Paul, thank you for your note.

I agree. We need to be ready to support ALL communications methods, Amateur
Radio or other wise. It has been our strong point, the diversity of systems
and bands and ranges we can offer in addition to the manpower.
We need to be ready to use the systems that are in place as operators or
support personnel in addition to what we can bring uniquely to the table.

I want to hear more about the WiFi possiblities. I had explored this in a
few notes about a year ago and there was some interest but no action that I
could see,

Chuck Hast had mentioned a vendor on the Fla West Coast that builds 2.4 G
equipment that is in the US Ham Band but not in the Part 15 frequencies used
by US 802.11b devices. Bud mentioned that to me and that Chuck had brought
up that possibility at the West Florida conference earlier this year.

Folks, can we add that to the discussion again, even if it is a separate
stream?
