Thanks to Rick Muething, KN6KB, and the software development team, as well
as the help of Bud Thompson, N0IA, and Bill Gutherie, KC4OUA, and equipment
borrowed from John Young, WA8KNE, we now have a Telpac Node in Clay County.
This node will be on 24 hours a day 7 days a week and is dedicated to this
purpose.
The node is on 144.93. To connect to it by packet on 144.93 send a connect
request to N4KOX-3.
Today it is on a low antenna and low power. I hope to have it operational on
a 50' high antenna and 100 watts later today. Soon the N4KOX-3 Telpac node
will be accessible from the Packet Network at 904026 (in this case the
connection would be to n4kox-3, 904026.
For the ARES members and emergency management officials, Telpac, provides a
way to send messages to any email address in the world from your packet
station or any packet station we set up to support emergency communications.
It will be an essential part of the Clay ARES Packet support of EMCOMMS.
With Telpac we can support the Clay EOC and Public Safety as well as any
other disaster response agency who needs to send messages to their
organization or to any other entity (such as the State EOC) or official that
has an email address.Additional support for EMCOMMS is soon to be added
through the introduction of Paclink which will enable you to use your
current E-mail client to send email with attachments through the amateur
system when required for disaster agency support as well as personal use.
See the October QST article (copy available from me electronically by
request) on Telpac for more details regarding Telpac and Winlink, the system
that supports Telpac for email.
There is a Telpac Node in Jacksonville, KC4OUA-2 on 145.01. Connection to it
should be from W4IZ-5 on 145.07. Once connected type HOST.
If you have any questions, please send me a note by either a reply to this
message or by connecting to the N4KOX-3 Telpac Node and send a message to me
at either of three email addresses:
