Go here to see the "reboot cards" Bill mentioned.

Three years ago I elected to go the kit route (I was looking for a
'project') While the kits went together very good and each of the three
boards I populated worked first time power was applied - I'm not looking for
a project at this time so I'd sure go the assembled route, especially if
there is a reasonable discount.Ordering the board from NHRC then the
components from DigiKey is a bit of hassel.

Charlie N3PPC and I are using these on our FPAC switches and wish we had
installed one on the ROSE switch. (Not comparing ROSE to FPAC, it is just
that one of the TNCs there is giving us fits recently and we could have
saved a 65 mile round trip two weeks ago. We plan on installing the
controller the next trip to the ROSE switch!)

The url reference above will give you information overload, so I won't
repeat it here - but here is our application:

Each switch has one of these touch tone decoders in a small enclosure - not
included (we got them at radio shack I think) as a "controller" of sorts.
The controller will toggle the state of up to six circuits. The FETs will
sink 1A out to the function you want to control. We have elected to drive
relays with those as we are switching 110v ac part of the time. We have the
controller on one of the UHF radios. Coming in on that UHF channel with
TouchTones allows control of any of the six circuits.

We are presently only using three:

1. Remove 12vdc from the bank of TNCs/Recycle power to all
2. Remove 110vdc from the computer/Recycle computer
3. Remove 110vdc from the cabinet/Recycle

The last control has given us some fits - we neglected to put the vcc
voltage for the controller and coil for that relay on a battery! We'll do
that eventually.

When the controller receives a ligit touch tone sequence it returns a cw
confirmation back over the UHF radio channel. (No, you don't have to know
the code - if it is improper you don't get anything!) However, if you know
the code, you know the state of that circuit (5HI means circuit five is
high, etc. -that one is all dits!) When you have finished playing, a CWID
is given from the uhf transmitter.

What we do is bring the TNC 5-pin DIN from the UHF transmitter and plug it
into the controller box. We wire a TNC cable to the back of the 5pin din
socket, run it out a grommet, to a 5pin DIN plug for the TNC. (The
controller and TNC are in parallel.) Inside the controller we connect the
PTT, TX audio, RX audio and ground to the appropriate places on the
controller board. So far in hooking up two units to two radios we've never
touched the controller RX audio or Tx variable controls.. it just worked.

We cut out a slot in the front of the controller so we can observe the six
channel LEDs while at the site.

It works. I figure if we save five trips to a site we have more than paid
for the controller. Also, it is great to just not have to make a trip if
something only needs recycled. All we need to do is find something clever
to use the other three circuits for!
