Early Saturday Morning (May 18) I was able to link through either the
DeLand packet switch or the Daytona Beach switch to the Melbourne network
switch W4MLB-8/9. I was able to come in on either the 2M 145.09 LAN port or
the 220MHZ backbone port at Melbourne. All seemed well for the short period
I was able to use the flat networks to make the link. If memory serves, the
Melbourne FPAC switch had been running since 1600 hrs on the 17th. It
appears that both the AC power glitch and the 2M radio problem have been
solved.

Because the only way I can test is through the 220 and 145.09 flat networks,
I did not have sufficient connectivity to test the routes/paths southward
from Melbourne to Vero and beyond. Perhaps N4XEO can do that this week
end.

The 2M Melbourne LAN port was on the heard list at COA1 in Cocoa, and also
on the ORL-9 flat network node in Orlando. The link between ORL-9 and
W4MLB-8/9 was (apparently) not good - and I'd not expect it to be. This is
not a problem as it is not the path the Layered Network will use to get to
W4MLB-8/9. We will do that through the 220 backbone and the Orlando switch
once we get the 220 port back on and get the Orlando switch moved to the new
(higher) location.

The present backbone link from the Melbourne switch to #COA on 220 in Cocoa
is probably solid 24/7. The link from #COA to DAB or to DEL only works
under conditions of darkness and then generally only after 2300 hours until
the game is called on account of daylight. I am anticipating that the link
from #COA to Orlando will be 24/7 once the Orlando switch is moved to the
new location. THAT will give network connectivity from Hollywood just north
of
Miami to Jacksonville all along the east coast!

Congratulations to Rick, W4RP and Clayton KA4NHW for hanging in there
through the ROSE to FPAC conversion, harshly restricted site access, NG
activations, 2M radio problems - what a crew! Thanks so much to Doug WD4KGY
and John, WB4MOZ for their help in converting the switch to FPAC.
