David:
The Classic Winlink software may be found at ftp://winlink.org/classic/.
(FTP download)
Classic Winlink is no longer supported by the author. You've had a lot of
BBS experience and the Winlink install it is fairly straight forward. I can
likely help talk you through any install problems on the phone.
To get the WL2K software to run as a WL2K station you will need to contact
Steve Waterman K4CJX [email protected] who is the gatekeeper-caretaker I
believe. While they hold distribution a little tight, your experience
should get Steve's attention. I can't be of any help on WL2K install, but
Rick, KN6KB might be able to offer assistance.
Airmail can be found at http://www.airmail2000.com/down.htm - After reading
some of the help stuff, a simple install. I could also help with that if
needed, though I have not used Airmail all that much since the latest
additions, and have no Telnet experience at all.
While most (if not all) of this will run packet on HF, ARQ modes are by far
more popular - I know of no one running any of this software on HF packet.
Generally the data controllers supported are the SCS PTC- series, PK-232s,
Hal CLOVER boards/units, Kantronics KAM series, KPC series, and clone TNC-2
on vhf packet - some in WA8DED firmware. Not all of this software supports
all these controllers, and only Winlink and WL2K support (some of) the dual
ports simultaneously.
