Sunday Dec 29 0700EST

Both computers back on the air now. The old Win98 is running WinFBB only -
(144.91) not Classic Winlink at all. So, for a while, there is no HF link
for
conventional SB, SP or ST messages as before. The HF side is now running
WL2K/PMBO only. At present the WL2K system supports personal e-mail
messaging
using ham radio then to an Internet interface at PMBOs.

I have some confidence that the Winlink 2000 (WL2K) Development Team will
let
me tinker with developing some support for NTS - but it will take a while to
work that out - and then to see if it is really worthwhile. First, the NTS
folks will have to embrace the offer for help, and then we'll have to
evaluate the actual value of it considering the few NTS messages that
are presently being generated.

On that issue, I will be continuing my efforts to get local ARES/RACES
groups
to embrace digital operations in their planning and to eventually move
virtually all digital operations, including H&W traffic, to an e-mail
format.
Then, the efforts of the WL2K group will pay off, as WL2K will be the
natural
carrier for EMCOMM digital traffic originating inside the Last Mile.

Happy New Year.
