Richard, you may get more information from the Racal reflector.

There have been a few of these popping up on ebay, and as far as I know, 
most have been bought for spares as they are not going to function as 
normal radios, being designed for data use, and priced accordingly.   As 
I'm sure you realise, the AF output stages are on the regular A4 board 
normally.

Gary Wingerd worked on these when he was with RCI.   I have seen 
something he wrote about them, maybe the Racal reflector archive might 
yield some information.

The later Revs of the 6790/GM did use a Z80 cpu, so that A6A2 board may 
well be one of those, but the 2 ROM firmware you have may not be that 
required for the regular radio....
