Its with sad news that I have this morning.....

Don Wilson K2DSV has fallen silent key....

Don as you know has been fighting for a while with cancer.....and just before xmas

had to be admitted to the hospital where he passed away this weekend....

As we all know with the pandemic going on it is uncertain of arrangements

at this time.....as soon as any info is available I will send out a email....

Please keep Jean and the family in your hearts thoughts and prayers.....

Fellow ETS Members,

By now most of you have heard the very sad news that Don, K2DSV has become a silent key.  When I received the call this morning it was like someone hit me with a ton of bricks.  What a terrible loss for his wife Jean, our club and to all who knew Don personally.  It is certainly a  tough way for our club to start the new year.

Today I looked back on some of the many good memories I have of Don.  I will miss him referring to me as "Nothing But Confusion" or saying "Hey kid-O what are you up to" whenever I call.  I will miss sitting on his front porch drinking iced tea and just rag chewing when the weather was nice and Jean was working.  Some years back I was able to spend a whole day with Don in his shack.  Always an avid DXer, and with the QSL cards to prove it, Don took the time that day to teach me the proper method of digging out transmissions that were way down in the mud during a big CQ contest that weekend.  It is a method I still use to this day.  Don loved our club and we all benefited by his great technical knowledge.  I am proud to have been able to call Don a friend and I have just two simple words to describes him: "A Gentleman".

As Dan, KC2YRC said earlier - Please keep Jean and the family in your thoughts and prayers.

After battling cancer and other health issues for so long, may Don now "Rest in Peace".  He will be sorely missed.

Obituary Of Donald R. Wilson

Middlesex, NJ ? Donald R. Wilson, 84, passed away at CareOne at Somerset Valley in Bound Brook on January, 3, 2021.  Born in Jersey City to the late Raymond and Mary (Zarnowski) Wilson, Don lived in Kearney and Little Ferry until he married Jean K. (Staron) and they moved to Middlesex fifty-five years ago to raise their family.

An honorably discharged veteran, Don served proudly in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He was an Engineer with Motorola in Glen Rock and retired from Regional Communications in Woodbridge.  Don?s true love in life was being a HAM Radio Operator and his call sign was K2DSV.  He enjoyed being an amateur pilot, loved music and belonged to several Amateur Radio clubs.  Back in the 1970?s, he was the host of Sunday Serenade on WBRW 1170 AM radio.

Predeceased by his two siblings; James and Martha, Don leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Jean and their two children; Arlene Wilson Ritter and her husband Andrew of Stockton and Eric Wilson of Bound Brook.  He will be missed by his three grandchildren; Kirsten, Evan and Kali as well as two siblings; Judy DeFazio and Mary Karnoski.

Visitation will be held in Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm and on Friday, January 8, 2021 beginning 10:00 am.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 10:30 am followed by burial at Bound Brook Cemetery in Bound Brook.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations sent to (http://www.cancer.org/ ) or (http://www.diabetes.org/ ) would be appreciated.

It is a Tektronix 515A Oscilloscope he hand built himself when he worked at
a Tektronix repair depot.

He has spare parts, probes, and a spare CRT for it.

 

It is a tube scope, and may need some TLC. Anyone interested, send me an

My fellow ETS members,

I received the terrible news from Bill,W2WK that one of our beloved members Drew, W2OU became a SK sometime this morning. I am not ashamed to say that I shed some tears when I found out. I am in total disbelief. Drew gave so much back to our hobby, even when he was going thru some very tough times with his health issues. Such a kind and soft spoken friend that I am happy to have known for so many years.

I remember the first time Cheryl met Drew and his wife. It was at Snuffy's many years ago at a one of the ETS holiday parties. We sat at the table exactly across from Drew and his wife. Even though Cheryl did not know anyone from the club, Drew took her under his wings and made her feel right at home. We shared a few good stories and some good laughs that day. Drew had that effect on everyone who knew him.

I will send out another email once more information is available.

We pray for Drew's wife and his family.

Fellow ETS members,

I received quite a few inquiries about the arrangements for Drew, W2OU.  It is truly amazing how many hams knew or were helped over the many years by Drew .  There are a countless number of hams who either got their ticket or upgraded with Drew being one of the VEs.  If a VE was needed Drew was always the first to volunteer.  He loved the hobby and gave so much of his personal time to be involved or to help others.  Drew was a role model for all hams to follow.  I have not spoken personally to the family so I am not sure if visitation at the funeral is open to everyone due to Covid, but I attached a link to the funeral home that will post a link to a YouTube video of the services tomorrow between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

Immediately following the memorial, a procession will arrive at Hillside Cemetery for burial. We welcome any family and friends that would like to show their condolences to arrive at Hillside at 11:30am. As this portion is outdoors, we are able to host a larger number of attendees at this location during the lowering of his casket.

The 2021 dues for ETS of NJ is $30.00


First off if anyone is having any difficulties please send a email to the officers

and we will handle it on a case by case basis.


Second thing not that I do not trust the mail system, but allready one person 

sent me a payment that I have not received yet and its going on two weeks since he mailed it.

    Repeaters rebooted this morning. Altered some CRON scripts for the 220
now linked to the RI digital hub.This hub is not too crazy,not like a major
wide area hub,very small.

     Digital is taking the ham radio community by storm. The 220 is on the
analog side on Allstar,minimizing packet loss.

     You will hear& able to participate in DMR,NXDN,echolink,YSF single
talkgroups as well as allstar.
