[ETS/PARC List] July Meeting Minutes - August Meeting Redmider

Bellow are the July meeting minutes.  Remember that we have an upcoming 
meeting on Friday, August 28 at 8pm. I expect it will be conducted on 
our 2 meter repeater, unless we hear otherwise.

*Minutes for the Meeting on July 31st, 2020 (via repeater)*

*Electronic Technology Society of New Jersey (ETS of NJ)*

The Meeting was called to order by President Vic Pennetta, K2NBC at 8:03 
PM on the K2ETS repeater. This was followed by the check-ins of 
participating members.

*Treasures Report (*KC2YRC, Treasurer*)*

Still solvent. Insurance has been paid. Only thing left for the year is 
the Annual report, needs to be done by August, can be done over the 
internet.Got a little rebate from one of the insurances.All is well.

WB2HKK – Another repeater in on 146.955 in Alpine, NJ may key up our 
repeater with word fragments. One of us needs to change the PL tone. Len 
suggests we use tone squelch. We could change our incoming PL to 110.9, 
outgoing would remain 141.3, it could also be a backup.

K2NBC – Concurs that it is an issue. Have we asked them it they would 
consider changing their PL?

WB2HKK – Thinks it would be difficulty for either club. We could take 
the technical initiative to solve it on our end.Even if we change our PL 
some of our weaker transmissions could be chopped up from adjacent 
channel interference. However, changing the PL would prevent key-ups.

K2NBC – Suggests Len does a writeup, so we do a survey to all members to 
get ideas.

W2OU - Suggests we ask Marv with Metro Repeater Coordination about 
deconfliction strategy.

KD2ARB – 2M kept for local communications, 220 repeater is linked up to 
interesting things.Trying to play with some digital things.Could link up 
Dstar.Just for a day.If something is set up he will send an email.May 
also try P25.Friday -Winn System Technical Net 9:30pm 220, Tuesday - 
East Coast Reflector technical net 8pm 220, Sunday – ARRL 9pm 2m.

W2LJ – Wondering if we have heard from Mrs. Cure, Bobby Cure’s (W2REC) 
wife. We sent a card and a memento. We are unaware of any correspondence.

*Picnic* – K2NBC - Been 3 or 4 weeks since we have heard from them. He 
will follow-up with them.Not sure how many people would want to try to 
have it.Since we have not heard we will presume it is not happening but 
will follow up.

*Video meetings – *

KD2PMP – Proposed the idea of us having video meetings in addition to on 
the air meetings. We could have technical presentations.

W2OU – Suggested Zoom, screen sharing, presentations and good for 
introducing new members.

K2NBC – Thinks it could augment our on the air meetings.

KD2PMP - Will prepare a web survey for our members.

WB2HKK – Suggests using Zoom as a good skill to have in our toolbox and 
challenge.

KD2ARB – Any update on K2DSV? W2OIL – he is doing fine.

KC2YRC – When WB2HKK started talking he heard a few words then heard a 
dropout until he rekeyed.

K2NBC – Has not noticed any problems hearing WB2HKK.

K2WLR - Has not noticed any problems hearing WB2HKK.

WB2HKK – Thinks Allstar should be transmitting the old PL despite him 
coming in on a new PL.

KC2YRC – Using a Baofang UV25-4, maybe an issue with that radio.

WB2HKK – Appreciates the observation and we may need to consider these 
kinds of issue.

KC2WDZ – Asked about the 2020 dues.

W2OIL – Dues are $30, we’ll send an email with more information.

KC2WDZ – Thinks the Alpine 955 repeater may be on the Armstrong Tower. 
Does not think it is affiliated with a club, just a group of good guys 
that run it.He understands the problem and hope it can be straightened out.

K2NBC - Thanks to K2WLR for running the last meeting.Thanks front-line 
workers and first responders.
