 All,I know ZOOM is a great and easy tool for most of us to use ....Millburn HS tried it recently for virtual teaching and had to stop almost as soon as it started as the system was severely hacked by white supremacists, other hate groups, porn as well!Please just be aware of this unfortunate scenario.Perhaps our club would not face this sort of thing. Zoom is a great tool to use and perhaps a trial would be worthy.I will confess that it was great hanging out on our repeater last Friday with you mates!....WV2RJR

We have nothing to hide regarding our meetings that would attract a
hacker.I feel we have nothing to worry about regarding "zoom"

     I think the ham radio community is scrambling to rise up to
covid-19.This is a time to regroup& figure what to do regarding getting
licensed online.

     Great man for reference is Drew W2OU.Im sure if he has heard of
anything regarding this,he would let us know of the intentions of licensing
at this time.

      The ham radio community must rise up because there are many on social
media making inquiry on getting a ham ticket like never before.

     We must have answers for these people.

I have been in touch with the league regarding online testing. At this time

Hope everyone is doing well! I've been using this time to learn by digging
deep into the Asterisk AllStar software.

 

I can report that the ' Galloping Ghost ' has ridden off into the sunset!

 

No more clicking / studdering audio on the repeater. Although there is new
AllStar software called ASL-1.01, we are using an older 2017 version of
AllStar.

The new version still has some issues yet to be resolved, and also had the
same audio issues, so there was no reason to change. The audio problem only
occur on the Raspberry Pi version, which uses an ARM RISC processor. This
processor has no internal timers which becomes a problem when decoding /
encoding digital audio streams.

 

Discussion about the audio issue revolves around something called ' DAHDI ',
which helps Asterisk maintain the audio timing.

 

I managed to get a module called ' dahdi_dummy ' installed on our older
software, and the audio has improved greatly.

Minutes for the Meeting on March 27th, 2020
Electronic Technology Society of New Jersey (ETS of NJ)

The Meeting was called to order by  President Vic Pennetta, K2NBC at 8:00
PM.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the meeting was held on the K2ETS
Repeater. To start the meeting, Vic called for meeting attendees to check
in.

Meeting Minutes
Minutes for the February meeting were successfully emailed. A correction
was made  to the list of meeting attendees ? John KD2IKS was added.  A
motion was made by K2WLR and seconded by KD2ARB to accept them.

Treasurer?s Report
Treasurer?s report as given by Dan KC2YRC. No dollar amounts were mentioned
over the air. The Treasurer reported that we are solvent.

A motion was made by W2OIL and seconded by WB2HKK to accept the Treasurer's
Report. This was approved by the membership.

Correspondence
Some QSL card were received from the bureau.

Technical Report
Repeaters are working OK. The backup repeater was re-installed and a
?booster? amp was installed. The clicking problem on the audio seems to be
gone and the 220 MHz repeater is OK.

Old Business
Nominations Committee ? Slate of Officers was read. K2NBC will continue as
President and KC2YRC will continue as Treasurer. K2WLR has accepted
nomination for Vice President and KD2PMP accepted nomination as Secretary.

The K2ETS Picnic is currently scheduled for the last Sunday in August ?
August 30th.

New Business ? KD2ARB proposed the possibility of holding future meetings
on Zoom, and mentioned the benefits.

Health and Welfare
Joe W2OZO asked about the current status of Don K2DSV ? W2OIL and KC2YRC
volunteered to find out.

Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM

First and foremost I am hopeful that all our ETS members and their families are doing well and staying healthy during these trying times.

I must apologize for not sending this email out sooner but I must have had a senior moment because I thought the last Friday of the month was next week!  Our last month's 2-meter On-The-Air club meeting went very smoothly and worked out better than expected.  Tonight we will use the same format as last month.  The meeting will start at 8:00 pm followed by check-ins.

At tonight's meeting we will be voting for the two open positions of club Vice-President and club Secretary.  After the meeting everyone is invited to hang out on frequency and rag chew.  Looking forward to hearing from everyone tonight.
