NJ2CN set up at NNJC Camp No-Be-Bos-Co during Ramapo Valley District's Baconfest 2017 Fall Camporee. Several hundred scouts were in attendance and many stopped to participate in the JOTA station. The scouts had a great time talking to other scouts on the radio. The Foxhunt activity was a great success, several teams were sent out with a directional antenna to find a transmitter hidden on the campgrounds. Fifteen hams were at the event participating in some way. Special Thanks to Scott Wylie, WY1LIE, for his intro presentation and activities plus thanks to prime station operators Steve Ruff, KD2JQK and Bob Beyer, KE2D who did an admirable job getting kids on the air! Webelos Scouts from Pack 175 in Ramsey were treated to a two hour hands-on activity of communications activities which included getting on the air for JOTA, a morse code sending and receiving activity, assembly of a VHF/UHF Go Box station, a demonstration of QRP kits, an overview of radio propagation and antennas, and also they were able to "see" the signals on the air through the use of an SDRPlay 2 connected to an ICOM IC-746Pro. They had a local contact demonstration on 146.52 FM simplex between their presenters Steve, KC2VBU and Gordon, W2TTT that was then followed by contacts and individual conversations for each Scout with stations in Indiana, Ohio and Missouri on 40m SSB. ARRL handout packages were distributed to each Scout and adult present generating follow-up interest by several Scouts and a few Dads. Troop 108 participated in JOTA with the support of the Wayne Radio Amateur Emergency Team (KD2KWT) at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Wayne, NJ. Some photos of that event can be seen here: ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/bSYWPoXJ68qSc29s1 ) *** Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club Annual Auction *** The Fair Lawn Amateur Radio Club hosts one of metro New York's largest auction of amateur radio equipment on Friday, November 24, 2017 (the day after Thanksgiving), beginning at 7PM at the Fair Lawn Senior Center, 11-05 Gardiner Road, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410. As such, there is NO November meeting. Pizza will be served; so we need a count of those planning to attend (guests are most definitely welcome and are encouraged to attend!) so we can order enough pies. Please respond to this e-mail as soon as you can. The recommended donation is $5 to help offset the cost of the pizzas. Desserts and other holiday goodies are also appreciated! Please respond to this e-mail as soon as you can. The recommended donation is $5 to help offset the cost of the pizzas. Desserts and other holiday goodies are also appreciated! While on the Parkway a flock of birds came out of nowhere and I thought one of them hit my car roof as I saw feathers flying all around behind my car. Once I got to my sister?s house I found the top whip section of my mobile antenna was bent and the end had a 90 degree bend on it. The whip is made of spring type steel so it really took a shot from that bird. 73, Victor, K2NBC From vpennetta at pennetta.com Thu Nov 30 15:01:44 2017 From: vpennetta at pennetta.com (Victor Pennetta) Date: Thu, 30 Nov 2017 20:01:44 +0000 Subject: [ETS/PARC List] Bird Versus My Antenna In-Reply-To: <818a05c380cf443eb9bd514116108025@pennetta.com> References: <818a05c380cf443eb9bd514116108025@pennetta.com> Message-ID: <53d4fd7e0ec546fa979c26350f6a48ff@pennetta.com> I forgot I could not attach a picture so I posted it on the ETS Facebook group. 73 -----Original Message----- From: etslist-bounces at mailman.qth.net [mailto:etslist-bounces at mailman.qth.net] On Behalf Of Victor Pennetta Sent: Thursday, November 30, 2017 2:54 PM To: etslist at mailman.qth.net Subject: [ETS/PARC List] Bird Versus My Antenna After picking up my mom on Thanksgiving Day I drove done the shore to my sister?s house.
