Subject: Some Important Information

Despite trying to limit my emails to all of you I felt that the
information here is important enough to warrant a separate email today.

1 – TCRA (TriCounty Radio Association) Has scheduled the following
speaker and topic - 6/5/2017 @ 7:30 PM - Union Elks Club, Union, NJ).
Any and all amateurs are welcome to join us - HamSCI and the 2017 Total
Solar Eclipse by Nathaniel Frissell:

Abstract: Ham radio operators around the world have voluntarily created
automated, global-scale networks that monitor high frequency (HF)
communications. We demonstrate that ionospheric effects can be observed
and quantified using these systems. This large, citizen-science radio
dataset can provide valuable information about ionospheric regions that
might not otherwise be sampled by conventional instrumentation. In order
to connect professional researchers with the volunteer-based ham radio
community, HamSCI (Ham Radio Science Citizen Investigation,
www.hamsci.org<http://www.hamsci.org>) has been established. HamSCI is working with the ARRL
HamSCI<http://www.hamsci.org/>
www.hamsci.org
HamSCI member Joshua D. Katz, KD2JAO, was recently announced as a winner of the 2017 NJIT Provost Undergraduate Summer Research award for his research proposal ...

(American Radio Relay League, www.arrl.org<http://www.arrl.org>) to organize a extensive
amateur radio operating event during the Great American Total Solar
Eclipse of August 21, 2017 in order to study the effects of the eclipse
on the ionosphere and upper atmosphere.

Bio: Nathaniel A. Frissell is a Post Doctoral Research Associate with
the New Jersey Institute of Technology Center for Solar-Terrestrial
Research (NJIT-CSTR). He earned his Ph.D. from the Virginia Tech
SuperDARN Laboratory in May, 2016. He holds an Extra class amateur
radio license (W2NAF) and initiated the citizen-science Ham Radio
Science Citizen Investigation (HamSCI) project. Nathaniel is the
associate advisor of the NJIT Amateur Radio Club, K2MFF.

2 – NNJ NET on 75 M Phone

It has been suggested that a NNJ Section Net be established (thanks
Roseland ARC). I would like your feedback on this idea. At this time
I am thinking of doing it the 1st Sunday evening of the month at 8 PM.
Ideas for the net would be NNJ Section information, other events in or
around NNJ, Technical questions (I am still looking to fill the
Technical coordinator position), and other topics as they come up.

Please send me your thoughts and ideas for this – should we do it?

3 - Speakers List

Don't forget that we are putting a speakers list together for all
clubs to make use of. So, IF you have a talk that you think others
would be interested in please let Lee Smith (KD2DRS at arrl.net) or myself
know. We want to make the list available to all clubs soon.
