NNJ Section News – March 2017

GENERAL
1)      I want to wish everyone a Happy Passover or a Happy Easter – I
hope the weather will cooperate
2)      Please send any question or comments regarding events in the section
to me – If I missed anything let me know – it will go on the NNJ web
page
3)      Keep your eyes on the NNJ web page  (from the ARRL.ORG page or
ARRL.org/sections/view/northern-new-jersey) for updated info as it
comes in

ARRL
1)      March is Red Cross Month
a)      The American National Red Cross updated and signed a new national
level Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ARRL (a year ago).
2)      ARRL Executive Committee to meet to hear updates on:
a)      H.R. 555 (Still pending action in the Senate)
b)      ARRL Petition for Rule Making on a secondary amateur band in the
vicinity of 5 MHz, while keeping four of the current five 60-meter
channels and the 100 W power limit.
3)      There are currently no changes in the OO, ARES and NTS programs.

April’s QST

SECTION
1)      I want to thank Don Mazak (NR2H) for serving as the Technical
Coordinator for our section.  He is stepping down so he can do more
travel in his retirement.
2)      I want to recognize Sid Markowitz (K2GG) for achieving 300 VE
sessions – Nice work Sid!
3)      New Section Appointments
a)      Barry Cohen (K2JV) has volunteered to assist with the Section Youth
Coordinator position.  I am still looking for a permanent person to
fill this role.  Thanks Barry
b)      The following positions are pending review and/or acceptance
i)      Official Observer Coordinator
ii)     Technical Coordinator
iii)    Section Government Liaison
4)      A speakers list is being prepared by our ACC
a)      If you would like to add your presentation to the growing list
please contact Lee Smith (KD2DRS at arrl.net)
5)      I will be speaking/participating at the following meetings over the
next few weeks:
a)      ETS/SPARC/RVRC – March 22 at the S. Plainfield Rescue Squad
b)      Roseland ARC – April 26, 2017 at 300 Eagle Rock Ave, Roseland
c)      Representing NNJ at the State VOAD meeting on April 5


HAMFESTS – April to June 2017
1)      NJ Hamfest – Succasunna, NJ – April 23, 2017 - Sunday
2)      BARA Hamfest – May 27, 2017 – Saturday
3)      Ocean-Monmouth Hamfest – June 3, 2017 Saturday
4)      Garden State Hamfest – June 11, 2017 - Sunday
5)      W2QW Hamfest – June 17, 2017 – Saturday
