Reminder that field day is approaching and South Plainfield ARC is in it again for 2017!

We will be participating at SPRING LAKE PARK in South Plainfield (located opposite our Rescue Squad on Plainfield Ave.)

SPARC invites ALL amateurs, ALL classes to come out and participate with us. 

We will be operating in class 3A battery and will have VHF/UHF/6 METERS and a GOTA station that needs operators. 

We plan on having satellite station ready if any activity is available.

REMEMBER THE DATE......JUNE 24/25 a 24 hour activity beginning on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. (setup) and 2 p.m. start. Ending Sunday at 2 p.m.

Come out and join us for as much time as you have available.

As you know the W2QW hamfest is this Saturday 6-17-2016.  Next to Sussex this is the second largest hamfest in New Jersey.  I am encouraging everyone to come out and support all the hard work that W2QW puts into this event.

Due to last year's success ETS will again have a club table and will be selling the many items that were donated to us during the year.  Also a few members of our club will be selling some of their own personal items.  They have offered to either donate to our club a percentage of any item they sell or any amount of the sale that is over their set minimum.

This is the only outside function that ETS has that will bring in additional money to help cover the cost of operating our club.  This is YOUR CLUB so please consider lending a little time to help out at the club table. The Maritime Radio Historical Society station K6KPH will transmit
the W1AW Field Day 2017 bulletin for the benefit of West Coast
stations on 3.5815, 7.0475, 14.0475, 18.0975 and 21.0675 MHz using
CW.

K6KPH will transmit the Field Day bulletin using Baudot, BPSK31 and
MFSK16 in this order on 7.095 and 14.095 MHz.

Establishes "Distracted Driver Enforcement and Education Fund."
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
AN ACT concerning distracted driving and amending and supplementing
P.L.2003, c.3lO.
BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly a/the State a/New
Jersey:
1. Section 1 ofP.L.2003, c.310 (C.39:4-97.3) is amended to read as
follows:
1. a. The use of a wireless telephone or electronic communication device
by an operator of a
moving motor vehicle on a public road or highway shall be unlawful
except when the telephone is
a hands-free wireless telephone or the electronic communication device
is used hands-free, provided that its placement does not interfere with
the operation of federally required safety equipment and the operator
exercises a high degree of caution in the operation of the motor
vehicle.

For the purposes of this section, an "electronic communication device"
shall not include
an amateur radio.

Nothing in P.L.2003, c.310 (C.39:4-97.3 et seq.) shall apply to the use
of a citizen's band radio
or two-way radio by an operator of a moving commercial motor vehicle or
authorized emergency
vehicle on a public road or highway.
b. The operator of a motor vehicle may use a hand-held wireless

Subject: Follow up on Distracted Driving Law

I have received several emails regarding the info I sent out yesterday.
I want to make some additional info available and point out some
limitations.

1 - the version I sent yesterday was only a partial version - it was the
NJ Senate version first page containing the exemption of Amateur Radio.
     This exemption was done for the sole purpose of Amateur Radio
operators responding to or participating in an emergency or disaster.
It was not intended for casual use (As I have been informed when it
originally passed). This is the reason Amateur tags are not considered
vanity tags.

2 - Distracted driving is distracted driving by any means.  This
includes using your radio.  A driver needs to pay 100% attention to
their driving not on a QSO.

3 - Some cities are passing laws that negate the exemption - so be extra
careful if you do chose to use your radios while driving.

Hope this clears up some issues.

Minutes for the Meeting on May 26th 2017
Electronic Technology Society of New Jersey (ETS of NJ)

The Meeting was called to order by  President Vic Pennetta, K2NBC at 8:08
PM.
This was followed by the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and then by
self-introductions of all those in attendance.

Meeting Minutes
Minutes for the January meeting were successfully emailed. A motion was
made by W2OILand seconded by N2JUN to accept them.

Treasurer?s Report
Treasurer?s report as given by Dan KC2YRC.
March 2017 Opening Balance - $XXXX.01
Income -   50/50s - $XX.00,   Members Dues & Donations - $XX.00, Coffee Can
$XX.00
Deposit - $XX.00
Regular Disbursements -  $XX.00 Bank Service Fee , $XX.54 Verizon Payment,
Closing Balance - $XXXX.47?  so we are $XXXX.64?ahead? compared  to last
year.

A motion was made by W2OIL and seconded by W2OU to accept the Treasurer's
Report. This was approved by the membership.

The Motorola repeater constructed by WB2HKK will become the primary
repeater. Len spent a lot of time, bith building it and programming it. The
old primary repeater will become the backup at the hospital. A decsison was
made to table the discussion about a new 220 repeater pending the outcome
of the sales at the W2QW Hamfest.

Old Business
Picnic ? Still trying to secure dates when the park is available.
Hamfest ? Martin WN2JSL has made several donations of sale items. Help is
needed to man the club table.

New Business
None

Health and Welfare
Gene K2KJI's wife is not doing well.

Presentation ? Don K2DSV showed several Baofeng handhelds that he purchased
for very little on line
This was followed by a very interesting presentation by Len WB2HKK on AC
Power distrinution

    Hello
  XERF...The most powerful radio station in Mexico back in the 60s put on
the radio map a Mr Bob Smith who became Wolfman Jack.At 250k watts of
power,it was heard worldwide!These stations were called "Border buster"
stations& that's what they were.

    With the invention of the transistor it rendered this transmitter
obsolete due to the fact it ran on tubes.Here is a remarkable history

MIKE ALSO TOLD ME HE ALSO WORKED AT XERF BEFORE COMING TO NJ.  RUNNING THAT MUCH POWER CAUSE HIM AND OTHERS WORKING AT THE TRANSMITER AND ANTENNA SYSTEM TO COME DOWN WITH CANCER.

  MIKE'S WIFE TOLD ME MIKE HAD BRAIN CANCER AND PASSED AWAY ABOUT SIX MONTHS AFTER I LEFT WWJRZ.AM.

RUNNING THAT MUCH POWER ON AM BROSDCAST STATIONS WAS ONLY ALLOWED IN MEXICO AT ONE TIME.

    This is totally awesome what you just shared! Excellent read& you had a
great career back in the day,chock full of memories.

     This hobby continues to amaze me with the vast talent represented not
only here but in the ham radio community at large.

     Mike had to be pure genius to get that Frankenstein of a transmitter
on the air with no schematic?

Subject: June NNJ Section News

GENERAL
This will be my last section email.  I want to say that it has been a
real pleasure serving the section as the SM for the last several months.
 I have enjoyed meeting many of you over that time.  I?ve made new
friends and seen parts of the section that I had only previously heard
about but never had an opportunity to visit.

I want to thank my cabinet members (AAC ?Lee Smith, PIC ? Jack
Pfister, SEC- Kymm Balinth Reagan, STM ? Dave Struebel, and ASM ?
Rich Krohn) for their time and dedication to the section.  While we
didn?t get a chance to complete many items on our ?to do list? I
know you tried and the section and I appreciate your efforts.  I also
want to express my thanks to the ARRL staff, in particular Steve Ewald
? WV1X and Leonia Adams W1LGA, for their help and support.

We have a large section.  It is composed of a wide variety of urban and
rural areas.  The needs of the amateurs in the section are just as
varied.  This is why I started the monthly (sometimes more often)
newsletter, updated the NNJ web site frequently and started the North
New Jersey Section Net (NNJSN) on 3.950 MHz at 6:05 PM (local time).  By
the way the net meets on the first Sunday of each month following the
New Jersey Phone Net ? please feel free to join both nets.  This net
will continue under the SM Rob Roschewsk ? KA2PBT.

I look forward to remaining active in the section over the next several
years and supporting Rob in his new position.

SECTION
We have just finished our Field Day (FD) operations.  I hope you all had
a good time and made many contacts.  This is an event that helps us
prepare for anything (remember 9-11).  It shows the public just what we
can do and how we do it.  I did have an opportunity to visit several FD
sites; unfortunately I was not able to get to all (I even got lost
trying to find some sites-sorry).  I had fun meeting and seeing some of
your set ups.

Boy Scout Jamboree on the Air  - June 29, 2017

HAM FESTS
        Sussex Ham Fest will be held July 16, 2017.  I hope to be there, I hope
you will also.
