Alfred C. Posbergh
Alfred C. Posbergh of Scotch Plains, NJ passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 15, 2017. He was 93 years old.
Born August 23, 1923, he was the son of Herman and Julia (Corcoran) Posbergh. He was raised in Plainfield, NJ and graduated from Plainfield High school in 1942. He lived in Scotch Plains for the last 55 years.
Al was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the South Pacific during WWII with the 230th Signal Operation Company. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He worked at Western Electric for 41 years, first as an installer and then as a supervisor, retiring in 1983.
Al was an avid amateur radio operator for over 65 years. He was a member of the ARRL, QCWA, and the ETS of NJ radio club and received numerous awards and recognition related to this hobby. His friendships and contacts made through ham radio provided endless pleasure and companionship. He was also an avid gardener and amateur photographer throughout his life.
He was a lifelong Catholic and a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scotch Plains since its inception.
His family meant the world to him. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Bertha Loeser Posbergh in 1978, he is survived by his four children and their spouses: Thomas Posbergh (Alice Wu), Patricia Posbergh Peddie (Thomas Peddie), Kevin Posbergh (Susan Wengryn Posbergh) and Lynn Posbergh (Glenn Mackin). Al was blessed to have eight grandchildren whom he adored: Anna Posbergh, Matthew, Brian and Rachel Peddie, Erin and Christian Posbergh, and Sarah and Emily Mackin.
Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood on Tuesday at 11AM. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 4-7PM and on Tuesday from 10AM until the service. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains. Contributions may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army or Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scotch Plains. For
