DO NOT try to view the eclipse directly ! I know there are places out there offering "eclipse glasses". Don't risk your retinas on something you're not sure of. The only safe way to directly view a solar eclipse is through something on the order of welder's glass. Otherwise, the best method is to view it by projection. It's super easy to do and that's how I viewed the '72 partial eclipse. https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/projection Remember, your eyesight is too valuable to risk it on viewing devices that you're not sure of. K2ETS Repeater Message-ID: <599F3BE7.00001B.01444@LEAPER-PC> The AllStar software running the repeater allows for a ' Tailmessage ' if desired. This message will play after the user unkeys his/her transmitter during the transmitter ' tail ' time. This message is ' polite '. It will NOT talk over a transmission at all. The tailmessage will ' arm ' itself after a programmed ' wait ' time, then wait for the next keyup to play during the repeater tail. Currently, the wait time is programmed for 45 minutes. If there is NO repeater activity the message will play once an hour only. During activity, it will try to play every 45 minutes. This ' tailmessage is PERSISTANT. If your conversation is of utmost importance, you can just keyup as the tailmessage is playing. It will immediately stop playing. HOWEVER, the ' tailmessage ' will try again in 4 minutes, and keep trying every 4 minutes until it gets the message out. This ' tailmessage ' is not used frivolously. It is only used for information important to the members and other hams. We have now added NWS Skywarn to the repeater. This will inform hams of impending dangerous weather events. During a SkyWarn period, the tailmessage ' arm ' time is 21 minutes, Since this is valuable urgent information, it is played with more frequency. It is my belief that the ' tailmessages ' are beneficial to K2ETS. I have programmed them to be effective, without becoming annoying. The messages are kept as short as possible. If anyone has suggestions for changes, please bring them up for discussion. I am not imposing my programming on anyone. I know there is at least one of you who has a problem with our system. Speak UP! This morning, as I was working to perfect the new SkyWarn tailmessage system, someone continuously keyed up over the meeting announcement. This caused it to try again in 4 minutes. They then keyed up over the message, and it reset for 4 minutes. This continued until I identified myself on the repeater, and asked whoever it was what the issue was. I got no response. Again, if you have an issue with the current system, bring it up for discussion. The repeater is run on software. It is easily modified.
