After a year of looking in that direction, we are now realizing that any sale, if it occurs, will probably be made to a NON-HAM. And that means, there will be no station at this location at some point - probably - but you never know. I mention the above because Miriam and I just decided to sell some OTHER LAND we own across the street - this is a nice parcel that we will never use - which is about 9.0 acres of interesting land for a potential station or vacation home here on the island. Basically it is within a mile of the ocean (you could easily see 200 degrees of ocean takeoff from the top of a 70 ft tower) - from its across the street location - I would say the takeoff resembles my own - it is just not right at the edge of the water. Basically from Northern Calif through North over to EA8 would be over salt water. It is a private lot with trees at the road and a highway access cut is already there - the land is presently leased to a local farmer - so a good bit of it is cleared, flat land suitable for a cottage or inexpensive prefab type home. Power is available at the road and an easy install as well. Miriam and I walked the land two days ago and there is about 3/4 of an acre of cleared land at the road that is perfect for a homesite. Behind a potential dwelling there is a dirt road we opened to allow access for the farmer to a SECOND cleared portion to the rear which is about 2 acres+/- of flat land - which would be ideal for antennas quite nicely out of sight from the home and street. If I personally wanted to develop this parcel for ham radio, I might easily imagine two HF towers, with room also for an 80m 4- square - and easily a single 1/4 wave vertical for 160m. Maybe even two phased verticals to the rear of the field that is there - these would probably fit as well. Since the remaining land overall is wooded and is shaped as a rectangle - it is also possible to string out two 880 foot beverages one NE/SW and a second NW/SE -and by making them both reversible two-way beverages, one could have some pretty decent listening antennas for the low bands as well on this parcel. Or perhaps a K7TJR RX 4SQ listening system. Anyway - that's the lot - and it is available now for sale. Since it is less than 10 acres, a husband and wife or any other two parties can buy it without formal application to the PEI government - which is a real plus. Tower restrictions here are not a problem as we have NO ZONING in my area - but some kind of filing may now be required with CANADA - but compared to local zoning in the NE corridor of the USA - this is a cakewalk. WIW, US citizens can come to Canada on their US passports for up to 183 days each year - which is plenty enough time for contests or to have a summer vacation with the family during the warmer months. Land size is approximaely 9+/- acres and the asking price is $19,500USD. 73 and thanks for reading. We have begun execution of our contingency plan to move Hamvention? 2017 to a new home. DARA and Hamvention? have enjoyed many successful years working together with HARA Arena and we wish the Wampler family the best. DARA and Hamvention? have been working on a contingency plan in the event HARA would become unavailable. We have spent many hours over the last few years evaluating possible locations and have found one in the area we believe will be a great new home! Due to logistics and timing issues, we will make a formal announcement introducing our new partner. This information will be coming soon. We all believe this new venue will be a spectacular place to hold our beloved event. Please rest assured we will have the event on the same weekend and, since it will be in the region, the current accommodations and outside events already planned for Hamvention 2017 should not be affected.
