It is open to all that wish to ask him something pertaining to Ham Radio and he can answer the basic questions or on the most advanced subjects. No, he's not a Gordon West or the ultimate foremost authority in Ham Radio, but knowledgeable and holds his own. I have listened to other tech nets through the years and most of them are very self contained and not into outsiders being involved in some cases. Not so here. I'm proposing to the membership to air the Tech Net on our 2 meter repeater on Friday nights on a temporary trial basis to see what the general consensus is for this net. This net would air 22:00 hrs on Friday night and would last for just an hour. Yes...the hour is kind of late, but we are talking West coast time. At the end of the net, the 2 meter repeater will be disconnected and returned to normal local amateur use with sleep mode enabled at midnight and available for use at 0400. Should an emergency happen during this special net broadcast, the repeater will be disconnected and available for anything else that may require disconnection. Mark F. Krotz, N7MK, of Mesa, Arizona, filed his request with the FCC last November. He wants the FCC to revise Part 97.25 of its rules to indicate that Amateur Radio licenses are granted for the holder's lifetime, instead of for the current 10 year term. Krotz noted that the General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) already is issued on a lifetime basis, and he maintained that not having to renew licenses would lighten the FCC's workload. "It would be mutually beneficial for the FCC and Amateur Radio operators to update Part 97 to grant operator licenses for lifetime, Krotz said in his filing. "The FCC would benefit by reducing administrative costs." In 2014 the FCC granted lifetime credit for examination elements 3 and 4, but applicants seeking relicensing under that provision still must pass examination element 2. Individuals may submit comments (http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/proceeding/view?name=RM-11760) via the FCC's Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS). Do not engage them in any way. It is best to simply end your conversation, and return later or QSY to another frequency. In extreme instances, the repeater may be disabled for a period on time. Do not panic, it's not that important. Ham radio is a secondary service in the eyes of the FCC. As such, it does not warrant much attention. However, we are a valuable communication resource in the event of a disaster, and that is where we may be able to gain some traction. If these jammers are not pursued, then they very possibly may interrupt emergency communication when it is most needed. Perhaps if there were some arrests across the country, and there was lots of publicity in the media and social media, the problem would subside. Len WB2HKK
