Introduction: Good evening, this is __________ Welcome to the ETS Wednesday night general information net. This net is operated and sponsored by the Electronic Technology Society of N.J., Inc. ?ETS?. I am using the Watchung repeater at 146.940, with a PL of 141.3 using the call K2ETS. We also run a backup repeater at a secondary site on the same frequency and call using a PL of 151.4. We operate a 220 repeater on 223.96, using the same call with a PL of 110.9. The 220 repeater is normally linked to the Raritan Valley Radio Club?s W2QW 440 repeater at 442.250 using a PL of 141.3. The 440 repeater offers IRLP, Allstar, as well as Echolink. Thanks to the generosity of the Raritan Valley Radio Club, we also use their W2QW repeater at 146.625 with a PL of 141.3. We normally link the K2ETS and the W2QW repeaters for our nets. The Raritan Valley Radio Club holds an informational social net on Sundays at 8pm. All radio amateurs are invited to participate with access available via all the repeaters that I just mentioned, including Echolink and All-star. RVRC also operates a repeater on 927.050. My name is _______ and my Callsign is _______, I will be net control for this evening's session. Anyone having traffic for the net should direct their information to net control when acknowledged. ETS-NJ Meetings are held on the last Friday of each month at the Clark Municipal Building. The Municipal building is located at 430 Westfield Ave., Clark, NJ 07066. Mike passed his Technician exam at the ETRSNJ VE session this past Saturday. I have invited him to attend our September meeting to meet the guys, and asked if he could present his project at the October 31st meeting. I think he agreed to the October meeting. So, please mark it on your calendar to attend that evening. Halloween costumes are optional. 73, Drew, W2OU Mike, FYI. Regards, Drew Moore W2OU To: ETSList at mailman.qth.net Members, The meeting Friday night was very good and interesting. We had intriguing dialog on the prospects of putting a 70cm repeater on the air, acquisition of a new 220 mhz amplifier, possibly 2 prospective new member, reduce announcement clutter on the air, a public service event in South Plainfield and a 5K marathone in Edison, and our possible future involvement in a baloon launching project. These are all healthy activities for a viable Amateur Radio Club. I felt good when I got home and I hope the feeling is shared. Someone bought up whether there were FAA restrictions for launching weather balloons. Of course we all thought there were since we do have things like restrictive airspace, etc., however no one seemed to have a clue. My guess is the owners of the project in the spirit of due diligence would as a matter of course explored that avenue before investing in the hobby. Launching weather balloons has been a school activity since Edmund Scientific starting sending out catalogs.. So, to help you out please feel free to visit http://www.diyspaceexploration.com/high-altitude-balloon-faq/ for more information. There's no shortage of helpful information on the internet that only require a simple Google search. If you're too busy to do any research I will arrange to have a guest speaker address the club after he takes his Technician exam on September 13, 2014 at our new VE Exam location (Clark OEM). 73, Drew Moore W2OU, ETSNJ Director -- From k2dsv at msn.com Thu Sep 18 13:01:08 2014 From: k2dsv at msn.com (Don WILSON) Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2014 13:01:08 -0400 Subject: [ETS/PARC List] FW: [TowerTalk] Sad day - W9ZUC tower accident In-Reply-To: <4516BCF39D414794AC09E0CF3025E44F@bill> References: <4516BCF39D414794AC09E0CF3025E44F@bill> Message-ID: > From: w2ay > To: ; > Subject: Fw: [TowerTalk] Sad day - W9ZUC tower accident > Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2014 14:35:11 +0000 > > Subject: Sad day - W9ZUC tower accident > > > > http://www.wirelessestimator.com/breaking_news.cfm > > > From etslist at mailman.qth.net Thu Sep 18 14:56:22 2014 From: etslist at mailman.qth.net (Ron Reinhardt via ETSList) Date: Thu, 18 Sep 2014 11:56:22 -0700 Subject: [ETS/PARC List] FW: [TowerTalk] Sad day - W9ZUC tower accident In-Reply-To: References: <4516BCF39D414794AC09E0CF3025E44F@bill> Message-ID: <1411066582.3709.YahooMailNeo@web126704.mail.ne1.yahoo.com> Very, very sad indeed! This was followed by the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance and then by self-introductions of all those in attendance. Meeting Minutes The July minutes were successfully e-mailed to all members. With that in mind, a motion was made by Don K2DSV and Dave W2OIL to suspend the reading and the minutes were accepted as published. Treasurer?s Report Treasurer?s report as of August 29th given by Dave W2OIL as reported to him by Vic K2NBC. Opening Balance - $XXXX.23 Income - None Disbursements - $XXX.20 for Club Equipment Insurance, $XX.06 to Verizon Closing Balance - $XXXX.97 A motion was made by W2LJ and seconded by KC2YRC to accept the Treasurer?s Report. By unanimous vote the report was accepted. Correspondence An e-mail by Marv K2VHW was read, looking for volunteers to participate in the South Plainfield Labor Day Parade. Technical Report Rich KB2LLM reported that the 220 MHz amplifier is dead and that he will be purchasing the new one as discussed and approved. The 220 repeater is on the air currently putting out about 10 Watts. Work needs to be done on the scripting that allows the linking and unlinking of the repeaters, and there still seems to be some audio distortion when the repeaters are linked. Len WB2HKK who was present at the meeting announced that Bart WB2HEK has donated his 440 repeater which will be put up at the Elizabeth back up repeater site. The frequency is 443.150 with a PL of 141.3 A discussion followed about repeater announcements, once again. It was decided that the announcements would be reduced to the hourly and half hourly announcements and it would be looked into if the announcement audio level can be reduced. It turns out that the UPS (backup power supply) at the backup site was not bad, as previously thought. It had gone into crowbar state and just needed a reset. Old Business Frank KG2CJ brought up the fact that we should look into removing members from the roster who have not paid their dues in over three years. New Business Drew W2OU brought to the attention to the club about a prospective member, who would be shortly taking his Tech exam. He is a teacher who is heavily involved in launching high altitude balloons with Amateur Radio payloads. There is also the possibility that he might give a presentation on this to a joint ETS-SPARC meeting, possibly in October. Marv K2VHW informed the club about the Technician Licensing Class that the South Plainfield Amateur Radio Club would be holding, starting September 23rd. Dan KC2YRC and Dave W2OIL suggested a presentation at the September meeting of ?QSLing in the 21st Century? to be given by W2EN, Doug Rue. Health and Welfare None Adjournment A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by W2WIQ and was seconded by KW2VFW The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM The 50/50 was won by Drew W2LJ, who donated his winnings back to the club.
