Subject: A Very Important Email to Hams in the 6th Congressional District - NJ

Hello,

Today I am writing specifically to those ARRL members who reside in the
6th Congressional District in New Jersey.

As you may know, the FCC has informed Congress that it will NOT extend
the same PRB-1 protections from unreasonable zoning ordinances to hams
living in residential developments with covenants, conditions, and
restrictions (CC&Rs) UNLESS DIRECTED TO DO SO BY CONGRESS.

The ARRL has responded to this by seeking a bill which, if passed by
Congress, would clearly instruct the FCC to do exactly what we need
done. We hope to have this Bill introduced in the coming weeks and now
need co-sponsors.

Perhaps the best method to get our Bill co-sponsored is by direct
“grass-roots” efforts within a legislators’ districts. Your
representative in Congress is Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ). Rep.
Pallone sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and its
Communications and Technology sub-committee. (This sub-committee will
be where our Bill will be sent for consideration.) As such he is
critically important to this effort.

My approach is the same as one I’ve used before which proved
successful in bringing our concerns to Congressman Peter King in 2012
after the introduction of HR-607. It is the same approach we are using
with another member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee from
upstate New York.

I NEED YOUR HELP! I want to put together a team of hams who are also
Rep. Pallone’s constituents. Since the Congressman is a Democrat, in
this instance it would be ideal if our team of hams include some who are
active in local Democratic Party politics. Republicans are welcome too.
(This isn’t about party politics – it’s about protecting Ham Radio
from the largest threat we have now!) To be successful in our
endeavor we need Congressional co-sponsors from both sides of the
aisle.

Perhaps one of you knows Rep. Pallone personally and can get us into
his office for a meeting. We can also use a ham who lives in a CC&R
community in that Congressional District and can’t put up even a
simple wire antenna. Someone who is an active participant in local
Amateur Radio activities such as ARES or RACES would be of great help
as well.

This is an easy matter of taking our concerns to the person who is
elected to help us. We will be well-received in the office when we
visit. We need to be proactive if we are to protect our ability to put
up antennas. Remember, without our antennas we’re not hams; we’re
SWLs.

Please get back to me ASAP if you fit any of these descriptions as I
will be putting this team together with the goal of approaching the
Congressman’s office just after the Bill is introduced.

Tnx es vy 73 de Mike N2YBB
