Subject: A call for volunteers - "Hope For The Warriors Run"
Over the course of a year, various clubs/ARES groups/RACES groups
support their communities by providing needed communications during
public service events. A few of these events stand out, both due to
the need of a large amount of volunteers and for the special needs of a
particular event/group.
One group truly stands out. They are our returning, wounded veterans
who have given so much on our behalf. Each year, the "Hope for the
Warriors" organization holds a race in Babylon, N.Y. (Suffolk County)
to raise money for this worthy organization that supports our veterans.
Attached is a call for support from the event communications team.
Normally I wouldn't bother the entire Division for a local event,
however, this one really pulls at the heartstrings and the team really
needs help this year in covering the event. If you do only one public
service event this year, consider the Run for the Warriors.
After you read the release from the Comm Team, contact John Melfi W2HCB
if you can help out: w2hcb at arrl.net

Babylon Town ARES/Great South Bay ARC needs radio operators for this
year's "Hope for the Warriors Run."
This year the event will be held on Sunday, November 10th. The 10K and
5K runs will be different than last year, and with over 200 streets to
be closed we’re going to need a lot of operators. To that end the
race committee has asked the club to line up at least 100 operators for
this year’s event.
This organization does a tremendous job working with all of our
returning veterans who have come home upon the conclusion of their
service to the country. Upon their return these brave men and women are
facing difficulties over which they have no control. Where their
government benefits end, the Hope for the Warriors organization seeks
to, “...enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 service members,
their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical
and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors®
is dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit,
and restoring hope for our service members and our military
families.”
The event team would like to thank all who have come out to support
this run in past years. We cannot tell you how impressed this
organization is with all of the support they’ve received from the
amateur radio community for their run.

As usual we will meet at 7 a.m. sharp at the South Bay Diner, located
across from the Babylon Town hall at 200 East Sunrise Highway, in
Lindenhurst, N.Y. The diner opens at 7 a.m. and will be ready to serve
you if you’d like to purchase breakfast or a cup of coffee.
