Please join us at our regularly scheduled meeting on April 26th for a
special presentation.

COSMIC SNOWBALLS (HAM RADIO PRESENTATION)

They were once thought to be omens of disaster and messengers of the gods.
They have inspired dread, fear, and awe in many different cultures and
societies around the world and throughout time. Unlike any other object in
the night sky, comets are still one the most intriguing celestial bodies in
the universe. Why did so many people cringe at the sight of these "cosmic
snowballs?"

Professor Gary Swangin (K2ITT) will discuss the history and origin of
comets, and how these strange objects may yield important clues about the
formation of our Solar System. Among the other topics covered in the
presentation are: famous comets; tracking and observing ISON which may
become the brightest comet history; and meteor showers - the relatives of
comets.

Professor Swangin is the director and astronomer of the Panther Academy
Planetarium in Paterson, New Jersey and teaches astronomy at Passaic County
Community College. He produced the award-winning documentary, "Are we alone
in the universe?," sponsored by the American Chemical Society and W.R. Grace
& Co. As a ham radio operator, he is primarily a CW operator and an avid DX
chaser on the HF bands with five DXCC awards.

I hope to see you then! Be there or be square!
