I don't know how long a term is for a Division Director as I've only been a
ham since 11/09 and have never received an email like the following.

I suppose my email address made it on a list as I did not solicit the
following, but thought I would share it anyway.

Apologies if you've received this already or are not interested.

----------------------------------------------------------------

When you vote this October to fill the position of Hudson Division
Director, keep this in mind; OUR SPECTRUM IS IN JEOPARDY!

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

Not long after the proposed merger between AT&T and T-Mobile fell through,
AT&T C.E.O. Randall Stephenson was reported in the New York Times as having
"complained about a spectrum shortage." The article reports, "...because
of the limited amount of the frequency spectrum available to expand
wireless services, the nation may face a data shortage in the coming years."
AT&T was reported to be seeking more governmental spectrum auctions to
alleviate their needs. (NY Times 1/30/12, p. B8)

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

This past Friday, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced that the agency
will meet later this September to discuss rules for the auction of UHF
spectrum not being used by broadcasters. While this particular auction is
not of Amateur Radio spectrum, Mr. Genachowski did say that to "...insure
ongoing innovation in mobile broadband, we must pursue several strategies
vigorously: freeing up more spectrum...and taking more steps to ensure that
our invisible infrastructure for mobile innovation can meet the needs of
the 21st century." (NY Times 9/8/12, p. B4) Can Amateur Radio spectrum be
far behind?

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

Our spectrum is worth billions of dollars at public auction. If we're not
careful, if we're not proactive, if we're not vigilant, we will lose
spectrum that is very desirable to the telecommunications industry, an
industry that is quite able to pay billions for spectrum that we have paid
a total of $00.00 to use. We must protect our rights to spectrum that is
vital to the survival of Amateur Radio and the freedom to use it without
penalty. What is the League doing to protect us?

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

We need a representative who understands that Amateur Radio needs to
develop working relationships with all groups having a vested interest in
spectrum usage! We need to build collegial, collaborative relationships
with the FCC, with the NTIA, with Congress, and YES, with the
telecommunications industry. They all need to understand our value to the
public, and in doing so, partner with Amateur Radio to protect the spectrum
we've been granted over the years. They shouldn't be our adversaries. They
should be our partners.

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

Let's not kid ourselves! The organizations responsible for overseeing
Amateur Radio are political in nature. To be effective, we need to become
politically active to protect our interests, both on a national and on a
local, grass-roots level. We have proven that local involvement works --
look at our success with Congressman King and HR 607.

In fact, in the ARRL 2011 Annual Report, President Kay Craigie N3KN
describes how "the ARRL...grassroots network helped lead the charge to
educate legislators on the valuable benefits of the Amateur Radio Service.
Through their efforts, the inclusion of portions of our Amateur Radio
spectrum was taken out of the bill."

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

Now is the time to elect someone who has the time and ability to provide
the leadership necessary to represent us in our fight to maintain our
spectrum. Now is the time to elect someone who has already proven himself
in the political arena on behalf of Amateur Radio.

*NOW** IS THE TIME!*

When you get your ballot this October, vote for Mike Lisenco, N2YBB, for
Hudson Division Director.

*OUR FUTURE IS **NOW**!*

---------------------------------------------------------

*Balloting will begin no later than October 1, 2012 and will conclude at
noon (EST) Friday, November 16, 2012. Members who are eligible to vote and
for whom the ARRL has a valid e-mail address will be sent instructions on
how to vote electronically. All other members who are eligible to vote will
receive ballots by USPS. *
