MAKE SURE YOU VIEW THE VIDEO .Here’s the current paradigm.. Life is good for Lufthansa. During the taxi-in , I was looking for the PanAm Hangers. A lot has changed since the China Clipper used to depart under the Bridge. We instituted the silent checklist in the A300. Callouts were only required if there was an unwanted light.. DELTA wouldn’t have that. Back in Atlanta we had to go over the panel switch by switch as per WWII checking list procedures. There seems to be a lot more time to sight-see than we had and VFR is certainly a pleasure. Capn pulls up his I-pad in frustration over reprogramming a runway change. Sure beats bringing the book out of the bag and shuffling through the Jepperson pages (lets hope they’re up to date). Side stick controllers ! Nothing to interfere with all that glass. Can you believe that its only on final below 1000’ that the pilot gets to feel the A/C? (though only via artificial feel in fly-by wire) Flaps 1 ! –we started at 15. All taxi & terminal diagrams in the glass. WOW! Imagine if all that gee-whiz starts to create unwanted electrons. Isn’t it impressive that you are regarded with awe as one of the last to deal with Iron Gages.
Things have changed, quite an aircraft , note the short check lists, minimal chatter Wow, talk about automation??? This is the ultimate...Don't want to miss this if you're a pilot or even a passenger. Landing SFO San Francisco Airport OnBoard Airbus A380 Apparently there is a new classification: the A380-800 is a "super" -- not just a "heavy" -- listen to the ATC on this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDMDuRczDI0 A fun video. It has more in common with a video game than flying an airplane. This is a Lufthansa video of an A380 landing at SFO. It is VERY well done and includes English subtitles with all the conversation with approach control and the SFO tower. I taught people to fly in this airspace and the trip around The Bay for me is kinda like a trip home. I have landed at SFO many times on RW 28R and 28L as in this video but, obviously, never in an A380. If you are a pilot you will see that this monster is just barely an airplane but mostly a computer. As they sometimes say, "The next airliner will have only one seat for a pilot and a second one for a dog. The dog will be trained to bite the pilot if he touches anything." :-) =
