To the members of the Electronic Technology Society of New Jersey,
I would like to take a moment of your time and thank everyone for giving me
the opportunity to serve ETS as club secretary.
After studying and receiving my amateur radio license 16 months ago, what
was to be just a form of emergency communications for me while trail riding,
camping, traversing remote locations and other outdoor activities has grown
into something much more than that.
Amateur radio has not only become a hobby, it has also become an outlet. An
outlet to express technical thoughts, ideas and interests. I have learned
more and learned it faster than probably anything else in the past. This
learning was not with the help of any one elmer, but with the help of an
entire club and community of elmers.
It has been said in the past that ETS is not just a club but extended
family. Nothing can be more true. The amount of help and advice obtained
from fellow ETS members for non amateur radio things has been quite equal to
all the amateur radio related help and advice.
During long, late night daily drives between Bucks Co, PA and Staten Isl.,NY
when my mom was sick many members stayed on the air to keep me company
during those drives alone. The advice and information I received most
recently on a new home purchase. The time members put aside to explain to me
many of the variables of amateur radio. These are just some of the reasons
why I can only hope that I gain the respect and admiration which I hold for
ETS of NJ.
Now, 16 months later, I thank Jeff, N2VHV for giving me this opportunity.
Not just for passing on the office of secretary but for becoming a friend
and introducing me to ETS of NJ.
With sincerest regards,
Gene
