Here's one member of your "group" that is delighted with the new proposal!
The expansion of Novice privilidges will allow much greater participation by
those newly interested in our hobby. The simplification of the whole structure
has to have appeal to newcomers as well.

Now I have to get after my wife to upgrade from her old time Novice to Tech,
so she can get swept into General when the time comes!

I'm deligted to become an Extra. I use the CW so little that it would have
taken a real major investment in time (hard to come by) to practice enough to
get back up to the 20 wpm. It's an emotional issue and perhaps the requirement
of 5 wpm for Extra will keep CW alive for a while. I recently visited the
radio room of a huge passanger liner. They had a satalite rig...and not a soul
on board knew a word of CW! It's gone. It'll be nice for us to try to
preserve it...and in our application, it will, no doubt have some future use in
really bad conditions during emergencies....but emotions or not...it's gone as a
world wide mode.

                                                                73
                                                                        Jerry
